Aftercare Instructions

Filling(s)

After having any fillings, you may eat or drink right away. Some sensitivity is normal and should be resolved within 2 weeks. Resume oral hygiene as usual. A soft chew diet is recommended, as you will likely be numb when you leave our office. Please be careful not to bite your tongue, lips, or cheeks. It is normal for your bite to feel slightly different after a new filling, and you should adjust to your new bite within 1 week. If you have any concerns persisting after a week, please notify our office.

Crown(s)

After leaving our office, you will likely still be numb. While you are numb, a soft chew diet is recommended to prevent you from biting your lips, cheek, or tongue. You will have a temporary crown for about 2 weeks. During this time, do not chew hard or sticky foods in that area of your mouth. Some sensitivity is expected. You may still proceed with your normal oral hygiene; however, when flossing around the temporary crown, you should pull the floss through rather than popping it out unless the assistant has told you to avoid flossing it altogether. If the temporary crown comes off, please contact our office.

After two weeks, we will place your permanent crown. For 24 hours, you will need to treat the permanent just as you did the temporary. After 24 hours, you may treat the permanent crown as any other tooth. It is normal for your tooth to be sensitive for up to 2 weeks after we place your crown. It is normal for your bite to feel slightly different after getting a new crown, and you should adjust to your new bite within 1 week.  If you have any concerns, please notify our office.
